Top 4 Oils for Natural Hair 


If you have natural hair, trust and believe, your hair is thirsting and begging you for oil. Our hair produces natural oils but because of how tight our curls are, those oils don’t really reach the rest of our hair. Therefore, our hair becomes really dry. Here is a list of my Top 4 Essential Oils for Natural Hair.

  • Coconut Oil- this can be used on all hair types. It is light and non-greasy. Coconut oil can be used on the scalp to prevent dandruff, itchiness and dryness. Personally I like to put it on my hair. It definitely adds shine and it makes my hair a lot more smoother which leads to less hair breakage. When there is less hair breakage, then chances are, you’ll retain that length. There are different types of Coconut Oils, but when dealing with your natural hair, it is best to go with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. In its liquid stage it will appear clear. When it’s at room temp it turns into a solid and it will appear white.

  • Olive Oil- Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great for sealing in moisture. When using it, it re-hydrates your hair. It’s best to start with a small amount; too much can weigh your hair down. Just like coconut oil, olive oil can be used on the scalp to prevent dryness and dandruff. It can also be used on the hair to provide a natural sheen. The great thing about it is that it has different uses. It can be used as a conditioner and even a hot oil treatment.

  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil- If your edges have been pulled, then all hail Queen Castor Oil. This oil is great for thinning edges, or thinning hair in general. It increases hair growth, thickens your hair, reduces and prevents damage, conditions and moisturizes your hair, and prevents dry scalp. Personally, I really like Jamaican Black Castor Oil. To be specific, I use the Sunny Isles brand. Over the years, ponytails, braids, buns etc has caused my edges to thin. After searching for so long, I came across Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I try to massage the oil on to my edges every night. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and I do see a difference. The key is being consistent. I forget a lot so I’m sure if I was consistent, my results would be even better. The consistency is very thick, so if u don’t have a steady hand, I suggest using an applicator to put it on your scalp. The smell is very strong. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I have gotten pretty used to it.

  • Avocado Oil- Not only is Avocado Oil great for your skin, but it also works wonders on hair! Avocado Oil is a great moisturizer. As a natural, I know most of us experience dry, brittle hair, especially during these winter months. Allow moisture to be your BFF! Avocado Oil is really lightweight and contains many nutrients like vitamins A, B, D and E. It also contains protein and iron. It is a natural SPF, so if you’re out in the sun a lot  or like to put heat in your hair, make sure to use avocado oil as a heat protectant. Avocado can be used as a deep conditioner and it also restores shine. If you like to wear your hair out a lot, use this oil as a sealant, put some on your ends. Seal in that moisture and prevent split ends!

  1. I mainly use Argan oil and castor oil which I love! Argan oil makes me hair super soft and smell amazing and castor oil thickens my hair and strengthens it I’ve noticed since I put in my regimen a few month ago. Lately I’ve been trying to get products that have those two oils in it.
